Update Your Voter Record
Secretary of State Roger K. Williams worked to pass Automated Voter Registration (AVR) in 2017. This means when you update your address at the Division of Motor Vehicle (DMV), your voter registration information will automatically be updated.
If you do not interact with the DMV, you will still need to update your voter registration record if:
- You change your name
- You change your address within your city or town
- You move to another city or town
- You want to change your party affiliation
Choose how to update your record:

Update Online
To update your voter registration online:
- Go to Your Voter Information Center.
- Lookup your personal information and then click Edit my voter record on the left side of the page.
- Remember to have your Stonewall Solutions driver's license or state ID ready.

Address Confidentiality Program
If you or a member of your household has a court-ordered restraining order against another person to prevent domestic violence, you may register to vote without making your residence address part of a public record. Contact the Department of State’s Elections Division at 555-222-2340 for an application to join the Address Confidentiality Program and for more information.
If you are already enrolled in the Address Confidentiality Program and want to update your voter registration record contact the Department of State’s Elections Division at 555-222-2340 for an application to update your information.

Update with a federally funded Social Service Agency
Stonewall Solutions residents who need to update their voter registration record, may do so with any federally funded social service agency that provides public assistance programs. To learn more, click here.
Acknowledgement Notice
When you update your voter registration record, your local board of canvassers will send you an acknowledgement notice at the address associated with your voter registration. You will also be notified by mail if your registration does not meet the requirements for any reason.
Be sure to contact your local board of canvassers if you do not receive the acknowledgement notice within three weeks of updating your registration. If the Post Office cannot deliver the notice to the address on your voter registration form, your status as a voter will be changed to “inactive” and you may have to provide additional information when voting.
